Annual Water Quality Report Available from Connecticut Water

CLINTON, CONNECTICUT, July 20, 2009 - Connecticut Water’s 2008 Water Quality Report was recently mailed to more than 88,000 customers that are served by the company.  The report provides customers with extensive information about their water supply, water quality test results, source protection and conservation measures.  Customers who read the report can be assured the water they receive meets or is better than state and federal standards for drinking water.

The company’s Water Quality Report summarizes the results of 170,000 water quality tests conducted in 2008.  More than 400 tests are performed each day for more than 120 potential contaminants and parameters that could affect the quality of tap water.  Connecticut Water collects water samples before the water is treated, during the treatment process and in the distribution system before it reaches a customer’s home. Water quality samples are tested at laboratories certified by the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) and test results are submitted to DPH’s Drinking Water Division.

“We encourage our customers to review the report, which confirms the quality of the treatment and drinking water they receive from Connecticut Water,” said Kevin Walsh, director, Technical and Environmental Services. “Our customers can be assured we are committed to providing them with safe, reliable, high-quality drinking water.”

Connecticut Water was recently presented with a national award for its commitment to provide customers with drinking water that is better than the required federal standards.  The company has maintained the Partnership for Safe Water Director’s Award for the last 10 years, an honor achieved by only 16 water utilities across the country.

In addition to drinking water quality information, the Water Quality report includes tips on how to conserve water indoors and outdoors, how to help reduce contaminants from entering rivers, lakes and reservoirs, and other educational material about Lead and Copper, Fluoride, Nitrates and Chlorine.

Some consumers, especially those living in apartments, condominiums or multi-family homes, might not have received a water quality report if they are not the billed customer of record with Connecticut Water.  These consumers can obtain a free copy of the water quality report by calling 1-800-286-5700 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays, or by stopping by one of Connecticut Water’s region offices. The report is also available at Connecticut Water’s Web site:  www.ctwater.com.
