Capital Projects
Extensive capital expenditures must be made
by water utilities in order to:
- Maintain compliance with new, more stringent
regulations;
- Provide needed infrastructure replacements
and improvements;
- Improve fire flows through water main replacements
and pumping and
storage improvements; and
- Develop new sources of water supply to meet
growing demands.
Considerable investments have been made by Connecticut
Water in its treatment facilities, distribution systems, operating
equipment, technology, storage tanks, new sources of supply, pumping
equipment, vehicles, tools, operating equipment, control systems
and other technology, and security related items.
Some of the major capital expenditures that
have been made over the last 15 years to protect the quality, safety
and availability of water companywide include:
- Aquifer Protection Mapping
- Security Planning and Facilities
- Integrated Customer and Financial Information
System
- Distribution System Mapping
- Environmental Permitting and Compliance

Investing in our infrastructure
Over the past four years, Connecticut Water
has made a concerted effort to improve its infrastructure with an
investment of more than $8 million in water main replacements and
rehabilitation projects.
This work includes mains that are under sized,
contribute to quality issues and/or experience frequent main breaks.
These projects are done in conjunction with state and town improvement
project whenever possible to help minimize the inconvenience to
customers and provide maximum efficiency of spending.
