effective April 1, 2008
On March 28, 2008, as provided for in Connecticut Water’s rate case decision issued in January 2007, the Department of Public Utility Control (DPUC) approved the company's rate application for the second phase of its approved rate increase.
The second phase includes a previously approved and deferred amount, plus the recovery of 2007 system improvements costs. It raises current rates by 12 percent or approximately 10 cents per day or $9 per quarter for a typical Connecticut Water/Unionville Division residential customer using 18,000 gallons of water per quarter. Even with the second phase, a gallon of water still costs less than a penny. The DPUC reviewed the completed system improvement projects and ensured they met customer needs before the additional increment was approved.
Since the new rates take effect on April 1, 2008 the increase will only be applied to the portion of your bill for service on and after April 1. The previous rate will apply to service before April 1. Because residential bills are issued quarterly, the number of days at the new rate will vary in the first quarter.
