General Rate Case Information

 

The Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) issued a final decision on July 28, 2021 on Connecticut Water's application to amend rates. 

Among the highlights of the decision:

  • Approval of our request to offer a Water Rate Assistance Program, or WRAP, that provides for income-eligible customers to receive a 15% reduction on their water bill. Program details are being developed and will be posted to our Customer Assistance page.
  • A water conservation rate. A slightly higher rate was approved for Connecticut Water residential customers who use more than an average of 200 gallons of water per day in a billing period. Only usage above the 200 gallons per day average will be billed at a higher rate. Usage at or below the average of 200 gallons per day will be billed at the normal rate. This inclining block rate is intended to encourage residential customers to use water wisely, especially for irrigation and lawn watering.

    PURA authorized a $5.2 million increase in annual revenues, or about 5.1%. Connecticut Water has revised its rate schedules accordingly to match the new revenues authorized. The rate schedules have been submitted to PURA for approval. We will begin billing customers at new rates when final rate schedules are approved. Rates will vary based on customer class and division, as authorized by PURA.  Information on the new rates will be provided will billing statements.
