Continuing dry weather and increased customer water usage have prompted Connecticut Water to issue a drought advisory for its water system that serves customers along the Connecticut shoreline. A drought advisory is the first of four stages of our drought response plan aimed at extending available water supplies to meet essential customer needs. Customers are asked to voluntarily reduce water usage by 10% in Clinton, Guilford, Madison, Old Saybrook and Westbrook.
Connecticut Water, Avon Water and Heritage Village Water companies are reminding their customers that help is available for those who are having trouble paying their water bills. Affected customers are encouraged to contact Connecticut Water before their accounts become past due.
Beginning the week of September 8, a portion of Main Street, Route 6, will be closed for a water main replacement project. The project is being done in two segments.
Traffic on Griffin Road between Miller Road in East Windsor and Thomas Street in South Windsor will be detoured around a water system improvement project from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. from September 8 through September 11.
River flows in the Pomperaug River have hit the third and final trigger in the low-flow operations plan. As called for in the plan, the Heritage Village Water Company, the Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition and the Town of Southbury are strongly requesting that the community, including residents, businesses and public agencies in the Pomperaug River Basin, voluntarily step up their water conservation efforts because of low flows in the river.
