New Plainfield treatment facility improves quality, reliability for Connecticut Water customers

PLAINFIELD, Conn., Aug. 3, 2026 — Customers served by Connecticut Water’s Gallup Water System in Plainfield will benefit from improved water quality, stronger system reliability and greater long-term resilience with the startup of a new, centralized drinking water treatment facility. The new facility, designed to support dependable, cost-efficient service for generations to come, recently began operating at the end of July.

The approximately $3.49 million project consolidates treatment operations for Gallup Well #1 and Well #2, the system’s primary drinking water sources. Located approximately 500 feet apart on separate properties, the two wells have historically operated independently, with Well #1 supplying most of the system demand and Well #2 used less frequently because it required additional treatment.

The new facility, capable of delivering more than 850,000 gallons per day, is designed to treat water from both wells at a single location and introduces pH adjustment and corrosion control treatment in addition to disinfection. The improvements will help protect infrastructure, improve water quality and allow for more consistent use of Well #2, reducing dependence on a single source and strengthening overall system reliability.

“This project represents an important investment in the future of the Gallup Water System,” Connecticut Water President Craig Patla said. “The new treatment facility gives our operators greater flexibility, improves system resilience and helps ensure we continue providing high-quality, reliable drinking water to our customers now and into the future.”

The facility incorporates advanced monitoring and control technologies that provide operators with greater visibility into system performance. Connecticut Water tests for more than 120 water quality parameters. Modern control technology allows Connecticut Water’s trained operators to monitor, adjust and manage the treatment process and distribution system 24 hours a day, seven days a week through our Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.

Connecticut Water secured funding from the Connecticut Department of Public Health’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund for the infrastructure project that reduces the cost for our customers.
